Congratulations Jennifer Thomson Winner of the Philanthropy Award

In the fall of 2015 I nominated Jennifer Thomson for the “Philanthropy Award” within the Womanition Organization. Womanition has begun to annually recognize outstanding women within various award categories. The Philanthropy award goes to an outstanding woman who volunteers her efforts to help others. When I read the description of this award category, immediately my dear friend and colleague Jennifer Thomson came into my mind. In that moment, I nominated her.

I met Jennifer 16 years ago at the University of Alberta, when we both attended the Education Psychology Masters Program. Once Aspirations Inc. was founded and operational, Jennifer joined our team. Additional to her private practice, Jennifer devoted much of her time supporting clients in crisis a program lead at the Support Network Walk-In-Counselling Program (known as WIC for local Edmontonians). When the program lost it’s funding, Jennifer rounded up like minded individuals to do her best to save the program. When it was clear that wasn’t going to be possible. Jennifer Thomson took the rein and opened a new non-profit agency in Edmonton called Walk-In Counselling Society of Edmonton, which has recently been changed to “Momentum Counselling.” This has been a major undertaking, as the free counselling offered by Momentum Counselling is only made possible by the numerous volunteers who align with helping others in time of need. Due to Jennifer’s foresight, persistence, and tireless dedication, Edmontonians continue to have a valuable counselling service for people who are in immediate need, a place to get resources and care. THANK YOU JENNIFER THOMSON!

In my heart, there is no other person who is more deserving than Jennifer Thomson to receive this reward.

WAY TO GO JENNIFER THOMSON!!
