Knowing if You’re Depressed, & When to Reach Out
Health is a general term and does not refer to only the physical wellness of your body. It also references your mental wellness. Men’s Health week is June 10 – 16 this year, and here’s some valuable tips on knowing if you’re depressed and when to reach out.
Depression is different in everyone, but with the social standards on men to “act tough” and “not show emotions” we are faced with a lot of bottled up tension, anger, sadness, and emotions. You are allowed to experience these feelings, and you are entitled to know when it may be serious enough to seek help.
Some telltale signs of Depression include being irritable, decreased interest, changes in sleep, or thoughts of suicide. You may find it hard to keep up with daily tasks, or struggle with these symptoms for several weeks.
If you’re concerned that you fit these symptoms, check out this great Self Check Tool by Heads Up Guys. If you find this sounds familiar, it might be worth reaching out to your family doctor for a consultation, or even coming in to Aspirations Inc and simply having a session with one of our therapists. You can discuss your experience and together, figure out how best to manage what you’re going through.
It’s important to remember, the more symptoms you have, or the longer they last – the more likely you’re dealing with Depression. This makes it ever more important to reach out and make an appointment now. Don’t ignore your symptoms. Being proactive can save you pain, misery, and more.
It is never too late to seek help or connect with a professional. Prioritize your mental health as you would your physical health. Missing an hour of work or school, if you have to, is worth the health and wellness you’re seeking.
